Have you ever taken cooked spaghetti noodles and tried to curl them? It doesn't work. They don't want to be curled and they will resist with a passion. So it is with the hair in this family. What, then, do we do with hair that is about as malleable as cooked spaghetti? We plait, of course! Happy are we, finally! "Long live braids and may they never fall out of favor," is my prayer.

Sans Ponytail Side Buns
I didn't have four elastics in front of me to put her hair in two ponytails first before making the side buns. So I just started braiding near the hairline and went in a circle. Elastic problem solved. :)
Candy Cane Braid
She and her cousin loved sitting at the table together playing with Grandma's kindle while I did both of their hair.

Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer
EVERYONE smiled at this hairstyle when we went out to a restaurant and to dance class. Two friends on Facebook sent me a picture of another model to give me the idea. Thank you, Lori and Suzanne!
Festive colors
The idea came from the link below. Like everything else, I had to settle for the simplified version.

Easy Rolled Braid Updo
She had on a different dress for the occasion this morning; now we get orange, silver, and purple--a wonderful color palette for December, don't you think?

Stacked or Wrapped Braids
For little princesses, regular braids are just charming!
Another version that I tried on my sister was to make fishtail braids instead and then wrap them around. She got a lot of compliments from people saying, "Elegant!"
P.S. This was the style Katniss Everdeen wore on reaping day in Hunger Games.
Romantic Braided Updo
This was a pleasant surprise for two reasons:
-I didn't have this in my mind as an end goal.

Prim's Bow Braid
Catching Fire, Hunger Games
Here are two variations of Prim's bow braid. (Tangles are better avoided when all the hair is contained rather than just half of it.)

Renaissance Crown Braids
Someday I will get as fancy as the link below--as soon as a volunteer and I both happen to have about four hours of spare time.

French Twist with Braid
This is an unusual french twist with a braid tucked in there. I had to try it at least once.

French Twist with Soft Accent
After I did this, she wanted her hair down again and flowing. (Thanks, Pocahontas!)

Side Buns with Zig Zag Part
I wish my hair could be this cute. Hers was completely out of the way while she played.
The idea stemmed from the traditional single bun shown here:

Sport Braid with Ribbon
Love the faux fur on her pant legs!!!
This is a combination of two styles: "jewel in the middle" ribbon braid and the diagonal ribbon braid.

Snow White and the Huntsman
I tried to do this one from memory before I studied the picture more closely. (Yes, I know, do my homework first before attempting a practical skills exam.)

Leafy Lettuce Edge Ruffle
Braids give body to hair too--looks like curls won't be the only hero.
You know those cute little girl dresses that have the hems stretched and then serged with a narrow stitch to create the darling mini ruffles? They also look like the edges of a salad lettuce.

See? What a cute design inspiration for dresses and hair--straight from the vegetable patch!

Circle Braid
Let's pretend the cereal bowls aren't in the picture and the table is wiped clean.
A classic style great for any age

Looped Zipper Updo
We played dress up. This style is best on thicker, mature hair. But since we were playing dress up,
anything was worth trying for fun.

Ribbon Laced Triple Braids
We were having a bad hair day, so we slapped a wig on her--major cop out!
That afternoon, we laced it up to get rid of my guilt. Yes, I'm aware that the right and left side are not symmetrical--I ran out of ribbon on the right side and had mercy on my squirming daughter. I called it a day and let her out of her chair.

Thumbelina Ponytail
She told me she wanted to be Thumbelina today. It's the version on Netflix that she watches about every other day right now.

Alternating Sides Braid
Remember what I said about the cooked spaghetti texture? She had a full head of beautiful curls about 52 seconds ago. Here's what's left of it by the time I got to the photograph moment in our morning routine.
